Naming the Elephant, ch. 6

Sire introduces two key concepts in this chapter that help me to understand his development. The first is the concept of plausibility structures. This was very helpful in understanding why many church members have bought in 'whole hog' into scientism and postmodernism. They are truly the air we breath in this non-thinking culture in which we live. The second is the objective/subjective treatment. I agree whole-heartedly that seeking certainty to the level Descartes did leads only to nihilism or relativism. The reality is that there is always a subjective AND objective aspect to truth.
