Naming the Elephant, ch. 3

This chapter effectively argues that ontology should be determined before epistemology when constructing a worldview. I am thankful for this chapter because, if I had been asked prior, I would have said epistemology. However, in order to have a solid understanding of the world, one must begin with God (an ontological statement) - "the Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom". That must be the foundation of our epistemology. I appreciated his care for Descartes in this chapter as well. I have been a fan of Meditations and seeing him address that was very helpful. In general, Sire uses philosophy to address core issues in worldview thinking very effectively.
