Christ and Culture Revisited, ch. 1

The always potent D.A. Carson does not disappoint here. Out of the gate he sets clearly the provenance and problems that he is seeking to address. Leaning heavily on Niebuhr's work, Carson gives a brief (and at the same time not-so brief) overview of Christ and Culture. He makes quick work of setting the stage for what I am confident will be a very intriguing journey through Christ and Culture. By way of reminder, the 5 approaches Niebuhr suggests are as follows:
Christ against Culture
Christ of Culture
Christ above Culture (which Carson believes include the next two)
Christ and Culture in Paradox
Christ Transforming Culture (which Niebuhr seems to affirm)
