Kingdom Triangle, thoughts
I just finished Kingdom Triangle, by J.P. Moreland. This book has challenged me in many ways. First of all, he has truly convicted me on the ways that I have allowed the 'spirit of the age', namely naturalism and post-modernism, shape my own Christian worldview. If I am honest, I thought I was on track and successfully unaffected by other worldviews. I realize now that is not the case. The main areas I see this is that I operate tentatively in my own faith, not trusting God to do supernatural things in my life or the life of my congregation. I am skeptical when it does happen, which is more tragic. While having a healthy, rational view of these things is important, skepticism assumes impossibility, which is unhealthy.
I am captured by the idea of practicing spiritual disciplines, but I am going to leave that discussing for when I read 'Renovation of the Heart', by Dallas Willard (on my short reading list).
What is most convicting is Moreland's suggestion of having a game plan for 'expecting the supernatural'. He considers this to be a major step in revival and recovery of the Christian story. I agree. I hope to begin a process of reading and praying about healings, words of knowledge, and hearing God's voice (I need to save tongues for later). I would like to set up times to talk to people about God's activity in these areas. I am meeting with one such person today. My prayer is that God will open my eyes to what is real and that I will become open to the supernatural if that is His intention for me and this world.
