Is God a Moral Monster? ch. 18

Switching to the argument that religion is the root of all evil and violence, Copan takes offensive. I am reminded of Pascal saying, "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from a religious conviction" While it is true that unspeakable evils in the name of religion, we still must ask the question if this religion is true. Copan spends quite a bit of space showing how the Crusades were not nearly as bad as Islamic jihad. I fear this is a little bit like defending a white lie from a string of severe lies: both are wrong, but to different degrees. The real headline is that abuse of religion (even in the Crusades) does not negate proper and true use of religion.
