Reclaiming the Center
What an incredible follow-up to 'Beyond Foundationalsim' and 'Truth & the New Kind of Christian'. Carefully defending a foundationalist approach to knowledge, Moreland and DeWeese successfully restore to me where I had strayed as a result of BF. Modest Foundationalism felt a bit like home as they described it. I appreciate that they maintain that bias does not make it impossible to teach.
This past semester in my Philosophy class, I decided to show my bias expressing to them that all teachers were biased. I had felt a bit uncertain as to whether this was a good move or not, but I feel more assured after reading this chapter.
I also found it difficult to properly dismantle Kant's approach to knowledge in a way that would convince my students. Though I felt confident, they would continue to buy-into it. In this chapter, the authors dismantle Kant's epistemology in a way that I plan to use next semester.
I am thankful for this chapter. In it I find a home epistemologically. I also find some key arguments against the position expressed in 'Beyond Foundationalism' that shook my own foundations. I am thankful for excellent thinkers like DeWeese and Moreland.
