The Heresy of Orthodoxy, summary

I am thankful for the Kostenbergers and Krugers of the world. The only way we know our faith in Jesus is through the testimony of the apostles. If one does not believe that the words of the New Testament are reliable, then there is no faith. The academic work of these authors shows that the Bauers and Ehrmans of the world merely make unsubstantiated conspiracies that undermine truth. It is for that reason, that I hope to use much of this in ministry.

Right now I am working with graduate students through a ministry called Grad Resources. Grad students face many of these scholarly conspiracies and are shaken because they do not know the wealth of evidence available to ground the validity of the NT. This book will serve as a reference and a guide as I seek to offer truth to believers who are struggling with these very questions.

The cultural climate of today seems to be fascinated with diversity for diversity's sake. K&K's arguments show that, if we seek to build a theology from heresy, it will not be found in the early church or in the NT manuscripts. It seems that every few years another Gnostic heresy is promoted through a supposed "lost book" like in the DaVinci Code (and copious other examples). These authors have demonstrated that these ideas are unfounded and unhelpful.

Beyond these things, I hope to use this in future apologetics classes I will teach. I am committed to regularly offering apologetics to believers to strengthen their faith and witness for Jesus Christ. Manuscript evidence and the scholarly work of these authors is one of the foundation stones upon which a strong apologetic must be built.
